On the previous occasion that I visited Zandspruit, rocks were flying overhead and the police were firing rubber bullets at the protesting crowds.
In more than a year nothing much have changed in the township. There are definitely more people and the daily 'struggle' for survival continue. Many open their own hair salons and capenta (small dried fish) is traded alongside the live chickens and fresh vegetables on the sidewalk.
